Zell am See has the biggest - and probably the most beautiful - private golfing facility in the Alpine region with two 18-hole championship links, the “Schmittenhöhe” course and the “Kitzsteinhorn” course.

The courses are laid out on flat parkland with biotopes and lakes and – as well as a spacious practice course – provide everything the golfer’s heart desires, from beginners to championship golfers. Golfing greats, such as Greg Norman, Bernhard Langer and Seve Ballesteros, have already put the the superb quality of both courses to the test during international tournaments staged here.

    Local golf courses:

ESR Zell am See/Kaprun Golf Club (36 holes; 3 km)
It isn’t just the layout of these two courses that brings lots of fans flocking back – they also provide an unrivalled view of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier (where the skiing is all summer long).

Urslautal Golf Club (Saalfelden/Maria Alm) (21 holes; 18 km)
Situated up on a high plateau, you are surrounded by the imposing backdrop of the rocky expanse of the Steinernes Meer, Alpine meadows in full bloom and the scenery of the Au.

Salzburg Gut Brandlhof Golf Club (18 holes; 20 km)
The River Saalach is a feature of this 18-hole course at the Gut Brandlhof GC which lies flat and is tightly squeezed in among the mountains and the Au scenery. The view of the Loferer Steinberge range is simply superb.

Mittersill Golf Club (18 holes; 27 km)
A varied, if surprisingly flat, course, providing not just a mountain backdrop but also the challenge of sweetly placed haystacks, expansive fairways and cunning water hazards.

Goldegg Golf Club (18 holes; 36 km)
Awaiting you here is a clever combination of short fairways and - no less challenging - longer fairways featuring ingenious water hazards, with some narrow and tree-lined. A sporting challenge and yet enjoyable at the same time!

Gastein Golf Club (18 holes; 49 km)
The new nine holes laid out in 2004 have opened up this course with agreeably wide boulevards and lush, gently undulating greens: an enjoyable warm-up for tackling the back nine, where a flair for tactics and cunning are required.

    Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee Golf Club (18 holes; 54 km)
This feature in Austria’s golfing landscape was 20 years old in 2008. The two aspects of the course – in front, flat and wide, and with a more Alpine landscape behind – provide fabulous golfing pleasure along with a view of the Kitzbühel mountains.

The course is just 1.8 km (3 minutes’ drive) from the hotel and is a member of the Leading Golf Courses in Austria Group. There are eight other golf courses within one hour’s drive of the hotel. (See below – Local golf courses –
